Tool band members, specifically lead vocalist Maynard James Keenan, have been dropping off clues since early 2018 that the new Tool album is in the works, and may finally see the light of day this 2019.
The L.A. based rock band’s last album “10,000 Days” was released way back in 2006. Fans are dying with anticipation for this long-overdue follow-up; thus, a tweet coming from the frontman himself has brought their hopes up.
“Scratch Vox tracked awhile ago,” he wrote. “[Adam Jones] deep in Guitars now. Final Vox after. Step back. Adjust. Mix. Adjust. Re-Adjust. Master. Adjust. Re-Adjust. Long Way 2 Go But Much Closer.”
This update was posted Kennan’s Twitter account last September 2018, which more or less, sealed the deal that the band is seriously pushing for a 2019 release.
Prior to this back in February 2018 Keenan said he started getting “...music files from the boys with the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging...Words and melodies for the new record were “100% DONE on all but 1 [song],” he said.
In June 2017, Keenan teased with quotes from interviews saying, “a lot of work's being done, a lot of work's been done. I'll go on record now saying you're gonna see some new music next year." He also pinned the blame for the delay on his bandmates. “I like to release records and write things a little more quickly than those guys like to write. Their process is very analytical,” he adds.
Other clues and updates also surfaced from some of Tool’s peers and inner circle, serving as credible ‘eyewitness’ accounts that have surfaced earlier in the year.
It started with Tom Morello posting on Instagram a photo of himself and the Tool, with the caption: “Had the honour of being the first outsider to hear new #TOOL music today!!” … Further describing the instrumentals that he heard as “...epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool.”
Blair MacKenzie Blair, Tool’s web content manager, also revealed in Tool’s November 2018 official newsletter that the wheels are indeed in motion for the new album to fly off the shelves in 2019.
“While walking to his car (parked on yet another deficient alley), Danny emerged from the studio and insisted that we hear a couple of new Tool songs before we left. (Not the final mix.) Yes! … While reclined in the passenger seat (with both Sturgeon guitarists comfortably in the back), Danny put the CD into the tray and selected track 3… “
Tool emerged in 1990 and became a dominant force in the alternative rock scene. The band has managed to gain critical acclaim and commercial success and has won three Grammy Awards.
