Metallica M72 World Tour 2024 Details, Tickets & More
It’s finally happened; the Bay Area metal legends Metallica have confirmed that their ongoing M72 World Tour will make its way to New Zealand in November 2025.
Considered today to be one of the “big four” bands of thrash metal alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer, Metallica scarcely needs any introduction. Still, on the off-chance that you could do with one, you might be interested in our blog post covering the history of this fabled act.
Metallica’s story goes back to 1981, when the Los Angeles-based Danish drummer, Lars Ulrich, began seeking out likeminded musicians to play with following the end of his high-school tennis career.
The band made its commercial breakthrough with its 1986 album, Master of Puppets, and it is fair to say they haven’t looked back since.
Today, Metallica consists of Ulrich alongside fellow founder member James Hetfield, as well as lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo. They have shown in recent years that they haven’t lost their touch, their 72 Seasons album having topped the New Zealand Albums chart and attracted rave reviews.
With the band having last performed in Aotearoa almost 15 years ago – planned dates in NZ in 2019 having been cancelled after Hetfield checked into an addiction recovery programme – the upcoming show, at Auckland’s Eden Park, will be highly anticipated.

The Auckland show is set to feature the infamous Snake Pit extending from the front of the stage. A full complement of Enhanced Experiences will also be available, encompassing such perks as a meet and greet, production and stage tour, food and beverage in the “Black Box” lounge, and early entry into the venue.
The band stated that they were “beyond thrilled to have locked down a return” to New Zealand, adding: “This will be the Metallica Family reunion we’ve been waiting for, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you next year!!”
Special Guests: Evanescence
Metallica will be joined for this date by “new friends”, Evanescence. The American rockers – graced with the talents of singer and keyboardist Amy Lee – burst to prominence with their debut studio album, Fallen, in 2003, and have gone on to sell over 30 million albums worldwide.

Special Guests: Suicidal Tendencies
Frequently credited as one of “the fathers of crossover thrash”, Suicidal Tendencies have been turning heads – and ears – since the 1980s, when their single “Institutionalized” was one of the first hardcore punk videos to receive substantial airplay on MTV. Having been Metallica’s North American tour partners, they will also appear at Eden Park.

Tickets for Metallica’s 2024 Auckland show can be bought via Ticketmaster. Presales begin from Tuesday 29th October, followed by the general onsale from Monday 4th November.

There is no public parking at Eden Park on an event day. The use of public transport is recommended.
