“WE WILL ROCK YOU hits all the right notes …. You will be rocked.” - Sydney Morning Herald
The hilarious futuristic comedy musical written by Ben Elton (The Young Ones, Blackadder, Popcorn) boasts 24 of Queen’s biggest hits, with the scale and spectacle that marked the band’s legendary live performances. Since 2002 over 16 million theatregoers in 28 countries have rocked out to this unique musical based around 24 of Queen’s biggest hits including: We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, Under Pressure, Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites The Dust and, of course, We Will Rock You.
For the Auckland season, our very own Annie Crummer returns to the role of the Killer Queen, the tyrannical boss of all-powerful global company that has robbed the world of rock music. Scaramouche and Galileo, two young outsiders, cannot come to terms with this bleak conformist reality created by the Killer Queen. They join the Bohemians, a handful of rock rebels, and embark on the search to find the unlimited power of freedom, love and rock music!
WE WILL ROCK YOU reflects the powerhouse energy and musical genius that earned the band its pinnacle position in rock history. With Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor as music supervisors behind the original production, this is a high-octane hit you won’t want to miss!
Theatre Co’s executive producer Regan Crummer says he wanted to bring the show back to Auckland because he believes the unique combination of one of Britain’s most successful comedy writers (Ben Elton) and legends of rock (Queen) is a winning formula that nearly twenty years on from its debut will still have audiences on their feet. “They are going to be totally immersed in what is basically an epic rock concert!”
"The show is live, dangerous and more than anything else: it rocks!” - Brian May, Queen
WE WILL ROCK YOU plays at the Bruce Mason Centre:

Finally! News broke out recently that the highly-anticipated “WorldWired Tour” of American thrash metal heavyweight band Metallica is bound for New Zealand, and are all set to play at Auckland's Mount Smart Stadium on October 31, 2019. And amplifying the intensity of excitement and sound decibels is guest supporting act Slipknot.
Metallica will first dock in Australia to play five shows prior to closing out their ‘down under’ tour here in New Zealand. This will be the first time in six years since Metallica played in Australia, and the first time in nine years since their last show in New Zealand held at the Christchurch, New Zealand CBS Canterbury Arena on September 21, 2010.
The nine-year drought and a whiff of clues a few months back, dropped by drummer Lars Ulrich, himself, raised hopes, heightened speculations, and drove more netizens to ask the burning question: Are Metallica Bound For a New Zealand Show Anytime Soon?

And nothing else matters for Metallica’s biggest and most devoted fans who engaged in relentless pursuits, hoping to call the band’s and concert promoters’ attention. One fan who championed this so-called ‘operation: bring-Metallica-back-to-New-Zealand’ endeavor was a 13-year-old super fan named William Bush who launched a campaign calling Metallica fans to sign a petition via change.org. The young lad collected over 7,000 signatures, and his efforts were definitely not in vain. As Metallica confirmed the New Zealand tour date, the country’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern herself, surprised Bush with two free tickets to the concert as a gesture of thanks for helping pave the way in making this much-awaited dream concert become a reality.
Still reeling-in from the rousing success of their massive U.S. tour, and an impending European tour, plus additional Asian and South American dates, Metallica has expressed that they are thrilled to set foot and shake the ground down under.
“This trip represents another new adventure for us during the WorldWired tour,” stated Metallica. “It will be the first time we have ever headlined stadiums in Australia and New Zealand. To help us celebrate, our friends in Slipknot will be joining us for the journey.”
Rolling Stone magazine has ranked Metallica at no. 61 on its 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list. Their illustrious career spans over three decades and are recognized as one of the pillars and stalwarts of the thrash metal movement. Their formidable body of work became the blueprint for the evolution in sound of the next generation of metal bands
Metallica’s discography encompasses fifteen albums to date, ten of which are studio recordings, along with four live albums, and one cover album; plus five EPs, 37 singles and 39 music videos. With sales of over 125 million albums worldwide, these releases have spawned mammoth chart-toppers such as “Enter Sandman,” One,” “Master of Puppets,” “Seek and Destroy,” and a whole lot more. The band has collected 9 Grammys out of 23 nominations, and scooped-up three MTV VMA awards.
Metallica’s WorldWired tour had a special fan club pre-selling last March 12. The general sale tickets are going live at 2 pm on March 18, 2019. For more information on ticketing, check out Live Nation.
